What a battery storage system is

A storage battery is a fixed unit, installed at your home or business, that stores electricity to use later. It has nothing to do with your electric car's battery: this is an energy reserve for your electrical installation, not for the vehicle.

It charges with energy from your solar panels during the day, with grid electricity during off-peak hours, or with both combined, and that energy stays available for whenever you need it: overnight, during peak hours, or even during a power cut if the system allows for it.

We always think of it as a complement to your charging point, not as a standalone product: the point is for the energy the battery stores to end up charging your car, your home or your business at the moment it matters most, rather than going to waste or costing more than necessary.

If you have solar panels, a good part of the energy they produce during the day goes to waste if you don't use it at that moment, because your car normally charges overnight. The storage battery solves exactly that: it stores the day's solar surplus so you can use it to charge the car when you get home.
